Protecting your data, privacy and personal information are very important to us here at BWN, and we ensure that we respect all relevant regulations to make sure that your data is secure. This privacy notice outlines what personal data we collect from you, how it is processed, how it is stored and shared. Please read this privacy notice carefully to understand the types of personal information we collect from you and your rights in relation to the personal data you provide to us.

This is the Privacy Notice for Mandie Holgate, trading as The Business Womans Network (BWN). Mandie is an author, coach, trainer, and public speaker, as well as co-ordinating the Business Womans Network (BWN).

For the purposes of this Privacy Notice, the Business Womans Network is the data controller. The fundamental premise of BWN is known and acknowledged by all members as business networking. An organisation and environment to provide positive business growth opportunities for members (individuals, sole traders and businesses) to promote their services to other members.

4. What personal information does BWN process?

We collect and process the following information about you under the following circumstances:

When you visit or browse our website

When you visit the BWN website we use cookies and other related technologies. A cookie is a small file that is stored by your browser on the hard drive of your computer. There are different types of cookies, some are necessary, and some are optional. BWN has a detailed Cookie Policy which provides full information about the cookies we use, and what your options are. When you become a member or purchase a course with us

When you apply and go through the process of becoming a member or purchasing a course from us, we will ask only for the personal information we need to complete the transaction, whereby you sign up to our Terms & Conditions, and pay a fee. Typically the personal data we gather and store is your name, business name, business address (please note this may be the same as your personal address if a sole trader) email address, and telephone number.

Payment for membership and courses is through the PayPal website links on the BWN website. When placing payment and using PayPal you will be subject to the PayPal Privacy Notice and Cookie Policy through the PayPal account that you have in place or set up to complete the transaction.

The lawful basis under the UK GDPR we use for the purchase of membership and courses is Article 6.1(b) Performance of a contract.

When you provide any personal information relating to your own business or organisation for promotion and marketing by BWN and its website

If you provide us with any personal data to promote your business or organisation on our website or through our marketing, we will only ask for the necessary information required, and you have a choice what information you would like to provide for onward promotion. Typically this will be your name, business name and address, your business email and telephone number. This may also include a photograph of you. The lawful basis under the UK GDPR we use for this is Article 6.1 (f) our legitimate interests in providing the networking information and environment our members expect.

When you subscribe to our newsletter

When you sign up to receive our newsletter we only ask for the information we need to send you this by email. We will ask for your consent to send you this, and you have the choice to cancel at any time.

When you register for an event with us

When you register for a BWN event, you will be redirected to the Eventbrite website for booking. When you link to the Eventbrite website you are subject to their Privacy Notice (available here: Eventbrite Privacy Policy | Eventbrite Help Centre) and to their Cookie Policy (available here: Cookie Statement | Eventbrite Help Centre ). Eventbrite will be the data controller for these transactions.

Email and direct contact with us

If you contact us directly by email with any questions or requests we will maintain a record of these emails through our email provider. You are able to request deletion of these emails at any time.

The lawful basis for processing this information is our legitimate interest to carry out our day-to-day business in managing communications with our customers.

5. Data Retention

We will only keep and use your data for as long as it is necessary for our use. We will only keep your personal data when you sign up as a member, buy a course, subscribe to our newsletter, or interact with BWN directly. You can request what information we hold about you, and also request your data is deleted, please see your rights in the section below.

6. Transfer of Personal Data

BWN does not transfer or share personal data to any other 3rd party for any reason, and does not sell personal data to any other 3rd party at any time.

We do not transfer data to any 3rd country outside of the UK or EU. Should we need to transfer data outside of the UK, EU, or to any 3rd country for any reason, we will ensure the necessary data protection measures are in place to provide adequate privacy to your personal data at all times.

7. Marketing

We will only send you newsletters if you have personally subscribed to opt in to this service. You may opt out at any time.

We will only contact you in regard to giveaways or competitions either through our website or social media platforms if you consent and provide us your information to allow you to participate. You may opt out at any time.

8. Cookies

9. Links to other sites and Social Media

The Business Womans Network provides a number of links to other websites for transaction purposes, such as Eventbrite and Paypal. Once you have linked to these sites to carry out a purchase or book an event, those providers are the controllers of your personal data, BWN can no longer take responsibility and you are then responsible for the use and protection of your own personal data.

BWN provides a group page on Facebook (Meta) (BWN Insiders). This is a private group for those BWN members who choose to join and participate in the social activity, chats, etc that take place. All members and those who interact or log on to Facebook (Meta) to take part in BWN Insiders do so at their own risk, where Facebook (Meta) is the data controller. Any link to other social media sites (such as LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and Youtube) from the BWN website are taken at the browsers own risk, and the Privacy Notice for each of these sites will apply.

10. Our external service providers

Whilst we are experts in business networking, coaching and training, like all companies, we don’t know how to do everything! Therefore, we work with globally recognised service providers to enable BWN to operate safely and securely. These include:

Microsoft, Google: we use these providers for business purposes and administration functions.

Paypal: we use Paypal to manage financial transactions and payments

Eventbrite: we use Eventbrite to manage our Events and bookings

11. Your rights as a UK data subject under the UK GDPR

You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal data.

  • Your right to rectification

You have the right to ask us to rectify personal data you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

You have the right to ask us to erase your personal data in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to restriction of processing

You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to object to processing

You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to data portability

You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal data you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to withdraw consent

When we use consent as our lawful basis you have the right to withdraw your consent.

You don’t need to pay a fee to exercise your rights. If you make a request, we have one calendar month to respond to you.
